Roma Amundson retired from the military in April, 2011, after 33 years of service, rising from enlisted rank to that of Brigadier General.  Her last military assignment was as the Assistant Adjutant General of the Nebraska Army National Guard.  She has commanded at all levels, from company and detachment through brigade, and has held numerous staff and directorate assignments.

Other significant assignments in the past include Acting State Director of the Nebraska Selective Service System during Desert Storm in 1991; Commander of the Officer Training Battalion and Executive Officer of the 209th Regional Training Institute of the Nebraska National Guard from 1998 through 2000; and Brigade Commander of the 92nd Troop Command from July, 2004 through April, 2008.

Public service comes naturally to Roma.  She states, “When I raised my right hand to swear ‘to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic,’ I never dreamed that service would become an essential part of my being.”  She continues, “Serving as Lancaster County Commissioner will allow me to continue public service very specifically to and for the citizens of Lancaster County.”

In addition to military experience, Roma has Masters of Education in Secondary Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and taught for 10 years before she turned to sales and marketing.  She holds a current Nebraska Professional Teaching Certificate and is licensed to teach English, German, and Spanish at the secondary level.

A businesswoman since 1982, she was first involved with insurance and financial products, and in 1996, she became a Realtor with Home Real Estate where she is currently employed.

Her volunteer activities include service on the Board of Directors for the Malone Community Center and Board of Directors for Take Flight Farms, an organization that provides equine assisted therapy for troubled individuals.  She is president of the General John J. “Black Jack” Pershing Chapter of the Association of the United States Army, and she is also a member of the Lincoln Independent Business Association, Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, and the Realtors Association of Lincoln.

Roma is a long-time resident of Lancaster County.  She and her husband Randy of 32 years have lived on an acreage near Walton since 1984.  Roma and Randy have two grown children; one is serving in the United States Air Force, and the other is in the medical laboratory technology field.  She and her family attend Messiah Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
